A pie born from a very special collaboration

This April, for the first time ever, we’re getting in on the flaky fun of the Autumn Pie and Tart Trail as part of the 2024 Macedon Ranges Autumn Festival.

Our entrant is the French-inspired Beef Bourguignon Pie.

It’s a nod to Harriet and Henry (and wanting in on some of their French culinary adventures) but more than that, it’s a nod to the premium produce (and producers) of the region.

We couldn’t be prouder to be partnering with the delightful Lucy and Barnaby of Larder Mouse Farm in Newham. These local, small scale, beef producers are as passionate about regenerative farming as we are at Zig Zag and we’re tickled pink by their enthusiasm to collaborate with the pie trail.

Their story rings familiar. The husband and wife team moved from Melbourne with a vision to raise premium grass-fed beef for the people of the Macedon Ranges. Both hailing from the UK, they understand the requirement to get the most out of a small area of land and as such, soil health is a constant priority.

Larder Mouse Farm is home to British Whites, one of the oldest breeds of cattle native to the United Kingdom. These gentle cows are beautiful with their distinctive white coats and black noses and after visiting the farm, you can tell that these are well loved animals.

In terms of the pie mastery, we’ve partnered with sourdough bakery Dough si Dough in Kyneton. They have slowly cooked our estate Cabernet, Mouse Larder Farm’s beef with sweet onions, mushrooms and bacon in a rich sauce and encased it all in flakey, buttery pastry. Mon Dieu!

This savoury delight really does bring the flavours of France to our cellar door (or your table!) and these are the two ways you can get your Beef Burgundy fix. Every weekend this month drop by:

Zig Zag Rd cellar door for eat-in individual pies – enjoyed as a picnic under the autumn leaves, with wine of course.
Larder Mouse Farm shop for takeaway family pies – enjoyed at home, with wine obviously.
Pies are limited each weekend and it’s only for the month of April! So we hope you can drop by and enjoy the tasty results of this very special Macedon Ranges collab.
